Anime[]

The Sonic Bird features in Zoids: Wild ZERO. The Zoid is introduced in episode 26, where it is piloted by Jake Ramon.

When migrating from Planet Zi, the Republic and Empire lost the ability to have supersonic aerial Zoids. The Republic in particular lacked air superiority compared to the Empire, so they focused on developing new aerial Zoids in secret. This first led to the Kuwaganos, and later to the Sonic Bird.

In the series, the Sonic Bird is a unique Zoid. Jake is recruited by the Republic and given chance to become its test pilot. He excels at this due to his love of flying.

The Sonic Bird quickly becomes an indispensable part of the Republic forces, it's speed allows it to act as an interceptor and quickly arrive as reinforcements to battles at a moments notice.

In episode 30 the Zoid is equipped with a device called a "deflector", a weapon exclusively designed to stop the Charged Particle Cannon of the Omega Rex. The Sonic Bird was the only Zoid with the speed and accuracy to engage the Omega Rex, and snipe the pendant unit on its back while it charges.
