Overview

The King Baron is a Lion-type Zoid, though one could also call it a Liger, as it is an improved version of the Helic Republic's King Liger design. Much as Ice Blazer was a faster, better-armed, and more chrome-covered version of the Zeekdober, the King Baron adds to the King Liger in terms of firepower. The zoid still has many of the features the King Liger had, such as the E-Shield Generator. In addition, despite the many weapons mounted on King Baron, the Zoid's overall speed was not to far from the King Liger's speed.

Battle Story Appearances

The King Baron mostly saw service in the polar regions of Nyx near the end of the Republic's invasion in the 2050s. As was its presuccsesor, the King Liger, it became popular for commanders of Zoid batalians and squads to use the King Baron, though none saw a starring role in the Battlestrory. As the kit was never reissued, it never appeared in-story outside of the late OJR.

Media Appearances

Games

The King Baron appears in Genobreaker Story, usually alongside either King Liger or (oddly) one of its rivals, like Zeekdober and Ice Blazer. The King Baron can be caught on their own, or upgraded from King Liger. Their electomagnetic shield is rather unique; like Mad Thunder and Gun Bluster, they can learn a move that entirely negates charged particle attacks, making them useful against Death Saurer, Gungyarados, etc.

Models

Old Japanese Release - Grade Ups

  • Assembly required. (Snap-together, no glue needed. Scissors or X-acto knife recommended for trimming off excess plastic bits.)
  • The model's colours are moulded into the plastic, and it does not need any paint.

The King Baron is colored white, red, black, and gray with gold chromed weapons. It also comes with a gold chrome pilot figure. The zoid's design is based off of the OJR King liger, which it shares many parts with. In addition, the King Baron's canopy style was re-used in the RCZ King Liger instead of the old one. (more details about this change on the RCZ section of the King Liger article) The King Baron is a part of the Grade Ups line. These models have spinning connectors that are powered by the Zoid’s motor. Optional Grade-Up weapon systems can be mounted on these connectors that have action features powered by the Zoid’s motor. No specific Grade-Up were made for the King Baron, which could be used with any Grade-Up Zoid.

So far, it is the only Grade-Up Zoid other than the Ice Blazer, the 3 Tansfighters (The subline of the Grade-Ups line that acted as Grade-Up weapons) and the Descat (Technicaly, the Descat is not a Grade-Up Zoid, but has Grade-Up ports) to not be re-issued.

The King Baron was released in 1989, with production continuing until 1990.

A rare silver chrome version exists which suggest a factory error as only one example was documented.
