The Sea Panther is a hermit crab type Zoid, a race of mechanical lifeforms from the fictional Zoids universe. Originally one of the rarer small windup kits in the franchise, it recently saw rerelease as part of the Zoid Graphics line.

Overview

Sea Panther was used by the Zenebas Empire. Like its type suggests, it was designed for amphibious work, and is fairly well-armed and armored for a Zoid of its size. Common variations (as seen on the OJR box) included one equipped with armor-piercing drills, and one modified with a heavy cannon even more like the tank it seems to derive its name from.

Battle Story appearances

The Zenebas Empire, having fled to the Dark Continent to regroup and get nastier Zoids, made to land on the Central Continent in ZAC 2041, engaging in a two-pronged surprise attack. Sea Panther was involved in the ground half of this operation, presumably, as it was well-designed for such work.

Media appearances

The Zoid does not appear in any of the anime, though it's seen in earlier Zoids games as a wandering monster.

Models

Original Japanese Release

The Sea Panther was originally released in 1987, and is cast in silver-grey and bright red plastic. The caps are a greyish teal, the cockpit "glass" red, and the pilot chrome silver.

It still uses the standard windup "clamshell" cockpit, but places a piece representing the crab's eyes in front of it.

Zoids Graphics

Pretty much functionally identical to the original Japanese release, the Graphics release also includes a frame of parts from the old whiteheads customize set. The stickers, however, are printed on particularly poor quality foil paper, and there are a number of reports of them sticking badly.
