Johnathan Shigaru is a fictional character from Zoids: Wild ZERO. He is one of the major antagonists.

Overview[]

Zoids Wild ZERO[]

Shigaru is first introduced as a Brigadier General for the Empire. He is brought in as a replacement for Brigadier General Collins, after Collins falls ill.

He takes over command of the Genospino, and installs Aldridge as its pilot. He then launches an attack on the Republic.

After the fallout of the attack of the Genospino, Shigaru is tried for treason. He is convicted, but still believes what he did was right.

Later, in episode 23 he reappears. This time assisting Dr. Land in completing the Omega Rex.

His motives become clear in episode 27, he announces to the world the formation of a new "True Empire", using Hannah Melville as its lead.

He denounces Emperor Fiona as being the heir to the Empire, and instead attempts to instantiate Hannah as the true rules of the Empire. This is due to him knowing the Hannah is a descendant of the previous Emperor.

He forms a massive army of loyalists and begins plans to usurp the Empire. These plans are ultimately foiled, but he still holds large sway. His influence grows when he gains the assistance of the enigmatic forces of the Zero Phantoth and Jamminga. With these at his side, he proves to be a threat for even the combined Empire and Republican forces.

None the less, his position is logistically a dead-end. Although he can fight, he is eventually abandoned by Hannah, leaving him with no claim to legitimacy.

Backed into a corner, he finds the Jamminga betray him and decimate his already weakened forces. Left with no other choice, he seizes the final Regeneration Cube and decides to use it as a bargaining chip. Knowing the fate of the world is in the balance, he bluffs the Empire and the Republic into granting him recognised status.

Not wanting to cost further time and with the fate of the world in the balance, the Empire caves to his demands. They grant his ideal legitimacy.

But faced with an overwhelming bargaining chip, Shigaru finally loses face and demands even more. It's not enough for his "True Empire" to be established, he wants himself to be guaranteed ruler.

Finally he is hoisted by his own petard, his final allies are alienated and he loses the Regeneration cube.

In a desperate attempt to become a martyr, he tries to die in battle. But he is intercepted by Hannah Melville, and captured instead.

He is last seen being taken away for imprisonment in the Empire.
