Matt Battled R.D is an episode from the anime series Zoids: Fuzors based on TOMY's Zoids model franchise.

12 Matt V RD — Matt tries to prove his worth by battling against RD.

Overview[]

This episode begins with a group of people (Watts, Miguel, and Vulcan) enquiring to Dr. Pierce about the possibility of three or more Zoids combining, something which he had no information about, although he admits it may be possible. While Matt trains with RD, Watts and his threesome arrive in Savage Hammer's hanger, piloting an Unenlagia, Nightwise and Mosasledge respectively.

Matt, encouraged by RD's words of praise attempts to take the Zi Fighter test, although the others in Mach Storm realize the danger in letting someone so young take the test and leave it up to RD to get Matt to not take the test. Unable to break the bad news, RD instead says that only if Matt is able to beat him in a duel will he be allowed to take the test. In the meantime, Watts agrees to Savage Hammer to forcibly acquire the Liger Zero Phoenix, believing that their "secret weapon" will lead them to victory. Disheartened by the prospect of facing off against RD, Matt searches for a Zi Fighter to train him even approaching Blake at one stage (not knowing who he is). Overhearing his desire to find a teacher, Matt is recruited by Watt's team, who give him access to a simulator for training. Tricked into getting a data disk (under the guise of programming the simulator), Watt's team are able to match Mach Storm's Leoblaze to their specifications, making it the target of their plans.

Matt and RD engage in a staged battle. RD evades Matt's initial charge but is attacked by a Nightwise before the battle can continue. The Nightwise, Leoblaze, Unelagia and Mosasledge Fusion into the Matrix Dragon, with Matt's Zoid being taken into the new Zoid's body, although he ejects before the battle truly begins. RD also fuses, but is overwhelmed by the Matrix Dragon's power and speed, and is soundly defeated. The Matrix Dragon leaves, believing it totalled the Liger Zero Phoenix, which is left for dead on the rocky ground.
