Undercover Agent! The Secret Backbeat! is the sixteenth episode of Zoids: Wild. It first aired in Japan on October 20, 2018.
Overview[]
This episode is character development for Battalia.
This episode starts out with the Team Freedom trio being happy-go-lucky. Battalia reveals she's looking after orphaned kids and needs money to support them. Arashi offers her the Ancient Treasure Z if it helps meet her dream.
They look to head to a nearby town called Lumaton. However Battalia starts to act strange when they get near. Analog notices, but Arashi is oblivious.
That night Battalia tries to sneak out and sabotage the Liger. Caught red-handed she initially tries to lie her way out. She doesn't fool Analog, but Arashi goes along with it and gives her benefit of the doubt. But her facade doesn't last, a call from Numb-Lock, one of the Four Dark Warriors blows her cover.
It's now revealed that she's a spy for the Dark Metal Empire. In exchange for collecting 100 bounties, Dark Metal would give her enough money to see her dream come true. On top of that, if she refused, she would have to fight against one of the Four Dark Warrios, a battle she couldn't win.
With no choice, she ends up fighting Arashi one-on-one.
Arashi points out all the things wrong with her situation. Battalia is well aware of it, but can't go back now.
After an emotional battle, Arashi defeats her using his Wild Blast.
Even though he is victorious, he offers himself up to her as a bounty. His previous offer for handing over the treasure was genuine.
Yet as the reconcile he and Analog start to fall asleep. Battalia had put turkey into their food, and it releases tryptophan to make them sleepy.
Battalia, obviously affected by Arashi's words, then leaves for Dark Metal, without completing her objective. She places her badge with Battalia before she goes.
The episode ends there, clearly a to-be-continued story.
Trivia[]
- In the Japanese version The next-time clips reveal what's been missing thusfar: Battalia 's Wild Blast.
- Up till now Battalia hasn't been able to use her Wild Blast, and before meeting Arashi, didn't know what it was (she did know of the Death Blast, however).
- In the English dub, the "turkey" is substantially changed in this episode and the next. In this episode Analog states his "body doesn't react well" to it and has a stomach ache. In the Japanese version, it's not turkey, but instead a diluted poison from her Zoid (a harmless poison that causes sleepiness).
