Talk Pages[]
This is a simple forum topic, since it's been raised to my attention that there is unnecessary arguing going on among members on talk pages. Ok, so what should a talk page be used for:
- asking questions explicitly related to the page
- explicitly answering questions
- asking for citations on content in the article
- explicitly providing citations
Basically, try to use talk pages as little as possible. Questions should not be replied to unless someone has a very explicit answer to the question. Talk pages should not be used for general discussion. This is especially true for the last two points, since that seems to be where the most contention comes from. If a citation is requested, only reply by providing the citation in question. Do not provide speculation or "maybe" answers.
This is not a rule, and won't be enforced by me or anyone else. (unless they want to, but I doubt it). But is just to try and stem the flow of excessively long talk pages that have cropped up recently.
Just remember, before adding to a talk page, be explicit. Don't add "maybe"'s, "I dont know"'s or "I think"'s. You can if you want, but it's not very advisable. Sylvanelite 08:35, July 11, 2010 (UTC)
